Lost My Dog co-founder Pete Dafeet delivers the second volume of 'R Is For Remix', a full six years after the then fresh-faced London-based producer compiled the first volume. The concept is simple - five remixes from Pete which never saw the light of day for various reasons get dusted off and freshened up. The remixes show the full range of Pete's production style taking in peak time vocals, to deep flowing grooves, to more techy heads down cuts.
Pete Dafeet's 'Falling Off' single at the start of 2013 began another impressive year that will soon see a return to Fabric and a debut appearance at the Vocal Booth Weekender in Spain. The end of 2012 saw his track 'Hit 'Em Up', taken from his 'Family Affair' full length project, receive Radio 1 plays from Pete Tong, while Pete also guested on Mark Knight's Toolroom radio show and received club support of his music from DJs including Ashley Beedle, Danny Howells, Jimpster, Graeme Park and Huxley.
His Lost My Dog imprint continues to go from strength to strength, with recent highlights including holding down the number 1 spot on Traxsource for four weeks, courtesy of Roland Nights and Mr V, and further plays of the labels tracks on Radio 1 from B.Traits and Mosca.
The original artists on R Is For Remix Vol 2 include Jonny Cade, who will soon join the label with an EP alongside Cera Alba as well as releasing for 2020 Vision; Chicago legend Bernard Badie and one of the all time defining voices of house music, Dajae; recent LMD artist and Purp & Soul's Harry Wolfman; Ben Dean, who appeared on Volume 1 of R Is For Remix back in 2007, and; secretive Belgian producer TMP.

13 POPSICLES with ALCOHOL Recipes for A Hot Summer Day
Remember sucking on a popsicle, trying to lick the juice before it all melted? You invariably ended up with it dripping off your chin. It tasted so refreshing and good.
When you eat a popsicle now, it feels a bit too sweet but just as much fun to eat. There’s a new trend out there aimed at changing your plain orange popsicle for something a bit more dynamic.
Adult popsicle recipes are as easy to make as the ones your mother used to make for you but the flavours are much more mature.
These are not the popsicles you should be sharing with the kids but your girlfriends will love them when you’re sitting poolside.
They feature alcohol and other tasty adult treats like coffee. Whip up a batch for your next afternoon withfriends or enjoy them solo on a hot day with your book while soaking up some sunshine.
You could also get really naughty and share them with your favourite man. All of these can be made in the popsicle mold of your choice.
1. White Sangria Popsicles
This one comes courtesy of Confections of a Foodie Bride.
- 1 bottle dry white wine
- ½ cup simple syrup
- ½ cup orange liqueur
- 2 lemons
- 2 cups chopped fruit (strawberries, apples, peaches, etc.)
Combine wine, syrup, and orange liqueur. Juice one lemon and add juice to mixture. Take the other lemon and slice it thinly. Add sliced lemon and fruit to the mixture. Pour into molds and freeze.
2. Pina Colada Popsicles
If you can’t go to the tropics, bring them to you. This recipe comes from Imbibe magazine.
- 1 fresh pineapple, cored and cubed
- 1 (6 oz) can of pineapple juice
- 1 (15 oz) can cream of coconut
- 6 oz aged rum (I like the Caribbean spiced rum)
In two batches, blend the pineapple and pineapple juice until pureed. Pour the two batches into a large bowland whisk in remaining ingredients. Pour into molds and freeze.
3. Coffee & Kahlua Popsicles
The Kitchenarian offers this recipe for a cold, caffeinated popsicle.
- 2 cups brewed espresso
- 1/3 cup chocolate syrup
- 6 TB sugar
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
- 3 Tb Kahlua
Blend all ingredients together, pour into molds and freeze.
4. X-Rated Mimosa Pops
This one comes courtesy of Miss Mochi’s Adventures blog.
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 cup champagne
- ½ cup X-Rated liqueur (optional)
Mix all ingredients together and pour into mold. Top with orange juice to create a sunrise effect if desired. Freeze.
5. Strawberry Daiquiri Popsicles
Eat Drink Love provides this recipe for the perfect summer cocktail in popsicle form.
- 1 pound hulled strawberries
- ½ cup rum
- Juice of 1 lime
- ¼ cup simple syrup or agave nectar
Blend all ingredients in blender until smooth. Pour into molds and freeze.
6. Frozen Tangerine Screwdriver Pops
She Knows came up with this great recipe. Play around with flavoured vodka for different combinations.
- 3 cups orange juice, fresh squeezed if possible
- 2 oz tangerine flavoured vodka
- ¼ orange, diced and segmented
Blend juice and vodka together. Put one orange piece in the bottom of each mold and then top with juice mixture. Freeze.
7. Frozen Cosmopolitans
This is another She Knows recipe.
- 3 cups cranberry juice
- ½ oz triple sec
- 1 oz cranberry flavoured vodka
- 1 oz lime juice, fresh squeezed if possible
- Fresh cranberries
Combine all liquids together. Place a fresh cranberry or two in the bottom of each mold. Top with liquid mixture and freeze.
8. Frozen Margarita Popsicles
Confections of a Foodie Bride is also the author of this recipe.- ½ cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup fresh squeezed lime juice (approximately 8-12 small limes)
- ¼ cup tequila (silver if possible)
- ¼ cup orange liqueur
Heat water and sugar in a small pan until completely dissolved. Let it cool. Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour into molds and freeze.

In The Odyssey, Homer described it as robbing Odysseus of any willpower: “Once tasted, no desire felt he to come with tidings back or seek his country more.” The most common method of consumption is to brew the flowers into a tea or steep them in alcohol for up to three weeks; the alcohol enhances the effects of the active chemicals.

Who used it: Ancient Greek oracles.
What it does: “Pythia” was the name for the Oracle of Delphi, a priestess in the Temple of Apollo on Mount Parnassus in ancient Greece. The oracle was said to inhale the gases, go into a trance, and recite prophesies. The ritual ended in 393 A.D. Academics debate if the Pythia gases were real or mythological, but some writers have posited theories on what chemicals the gases might have been made of. Ethylene, benzene, and methane are all possibilities, though others argue that the Pythia oracles spoke coherently in their own voices, dead sober. Too bad for them.

What it does: Opium comes from the latex embedded in the husk of the poppy flower, which contains up to 12 percent morphine, the active ingredient in the drug. The drug has a long history: It was first cultivated by Sumerians in 3400 BC, who referred to it as the “joy plant.” The Greek gods of sleep, night, and death are often pictured wreathed in or holding poppies. ΤΙ ΚΑΝΕΙ: Το όπιο προέρχεται από χυμό (γάλα) που έχει ο μίσχος της παπαρούνας, ο οποίος περιέχει μέχρι και 12% μορφίνη, το ενεργό συστατικό του ναρκωτικού. Black Henbane
Who used it: Eurasian cultures.
What it does: Black henbane, also known by names ranging from “stinking nightshade” to “apollinarix” (after the Greek god Apollo), was used as a medicine, and its seeds were often brewed into beer as a way to increase its intoxicating effects. It impairs vision and causes deep sleep, but too much of it is poison — Shakespeare cited it in his plays as a murder weapon.

Coca Leaf
Who used it: Mayans
What it does: Way before anyone was distilling the plant into powder, coca leaves were chewed and brewed into tea by Mayans for its powerful stimulating effects. Coca is an extremely functional drug: Beyond its capacity to act like strong cup of coffee, a dose of 100 grams of coca leaf contains your daily recommended intake of calcium, phosphorus, iron, and several vitamins, though putting it in your breakfast cereal is definitely not recommended.
Where to get it: The hills of South America, but specifically Medellín.

Tobacco
Who used it: Native Americans.
What it does: Tobacco was used as a ritual substance and trade item for Native Americans long before it was discovered by western settlers in the 16th century and became one of the most widely used drugs in the world. The natives believed that tobacco was a holy gift and the tobacco smoke carried the smoker’s prayers to heaven. Western peoples just believed it was awesome, at least until tobacco’s health effects came to public knowledge.

Betel Nut
Who used it: Central and East Asian cultures.
What it does: Areca nut, known more commonly as betel nut, has been chewed as a stimulant for tens of thousands of years. Evidence has been found of its use 13,000 years ago in Timor, an island to the north of Australia. Consuming the areca nut comes with an elaborate preparation process: Slices of the spicy, sweet nut, along with additives like tobacco and dried fruit, are wrapped in a betel leaf that is sometimes brushed with lime chalk, and then inserted into the mouth. Mmm!
Chewing the nut causes a warming sensation in the body and heightened awareness, not unlike coffee. Unfortunately, it also causes gum damage and oral cancer. The habit is dying out today both because of the health risks as well as its aesthetics — the betel chewer’s saliva turns a disgusting shade of bright red and their spit looks a lot like blood.

ΣΠΟΡΟΙ BETEL ή ARECA

What it does: Though cannabis has been cultivated for millennia for its useful hemp fiber, the earliest recorded evidence of the drug being used as a psychoactive is a 2700-year-old grave site in western China. A shaman’s grave was found to contain a bag with 789 grams of cannabis. Clearly, he was a huge stoner — that’s 1.7 pounds of the green stuff.
The plant has also been used as an intoxicant in bhang, a beverage drunk by Sikhs to honor Shiva and as a meditation aid and painkiller. Medicinally, cannabis is used to heighten appetite, treat glaucoma, and make boring TV more entertaining.

What it does: Nutmeg, more commonly known as a cooking ingredient, has long been used medicinally to combat asthma and heart complaints, as well as a popular sedative, according to the 1998 Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Substances. The spice was believed to have magical, lucky properties, but it has also been used for more… functional applications: Malcolm X drank water mixed with nutmeg as a marijuana substitute while in prison. Just don’t take too much of it, like this poor guy did. Spices can fuck you up.

Harmal
Who used it: West Indian, Iranian, and Andean cultures.
What it does: Harmal, a flowering plant that can be distilled into the chemical Harmine, has recently been discovered in the hair of an adult male mummy as well as a mummified one-year-old baby in northern Chile, dating back to 800 to 1200 AD. The chemical is a powerful antidepressant and may increase the effects of other hallucinogens, as well as treat inflammation and fever. The male mummy was found with an elaborate set of snuffing trays and pipes, status symbols which would have been used to consume the drug.
Where to get it: Harmal seeds can be found in Iran and Middle Eastern grocery stores.
ΧΑΡΜΑΛΙΝΗ

Peyote
Who used it: Native Americans
What it does: This desert plant, which causes intense hallucinations, is known to have been in use since the Archaic period of North America, from 8000 to 2000 BC. Specimens have been found in grave sites dating back to 3000 BC. The drug is thought to have been part of religious ceremonies, rituals which continued until the US attempted to ban it in the early 20th century. Peyote buttons are generally chewed or boiled in water to make hallucinogenic tea — civil war soldiers in Texas, lacking anything better to do, made peyote tea. Experts obviously theorize that’s why the south lost.
Where to get it: Southwestern Texas and Mexico.
